Ground rules for my family

Goodwill is coming tomorrow, for all the things too big to fit in my car. Habitat for Humanity is coming on Friday, to pick up the refrigerator and chest freezer, because Goodwill doesn't take appliances. Sanford & Son is coming on Saturday morning, for everything that remains.

Then I'll sweep up, load the car, have a last breakfast at the diner on Sunday morning, and be on my way.

Like everyone else, I'm a better than average driver.

I don't like driving, though. It's not quite a phobia, but whenever I get into a car, whether driving or riding, I'm aware that there's no more dangerous way to travel. You're dead if the wrong person hiccups at the wrong moment.

If I die on the way, please accept my apologies for a blog that's never been as good as I'd hoped.

With good hiccups luck, I'll be in Seattle by next weekend. Once settled, I'm hoping to return to writing two posts daily, with one post weekly that's worth reading.

First draft of my ground rules for the family, because they need them:

• When you've asked me to do something and I've said no, that's the answer. Please respect that answer. Asking over and over again, hoping for yes after I've said no? That's rude.

• Someone has signed me up with a Seattle-area job-search company. Four emails are arriving daily, despite my clicking 'unsubscribe' after the first one. No doubt the intention was kind, but signing someone up for spam, without asking, is rude.

• Most of the family is religious, but I'm not. I'll respect your religion, and expect you to respect my lack. Tell me what happened at church on Sunday, and I'll listen cheerfully and in good spirits. Tell me that *I* should be in church on Sunday? That's rude.

Let's be polite, OK? Good manners will keep everyone happy.

And now, my internet history from yesterday, minus the porn…

Capitol riot suspect is granted refugee status in Belarus after fleeing US

A video released by Belta on Tuesday showed an immigration official handing Mr Neumann a document confirming his refugee status. "Now you are completely under the protection of the Republic of Belarus," the official says.

I look forward to the eventual updates on Evan Neumann's new life in Belarus.
