In Alabama, another small-town paper hit in ‘open season’ on free press
Another obviously bogus raid on another small-town weekly newspaper. Let’s hope the paper wins enough millions of dollars in damages to be on a sound financial footing for the 22nd century. Massachusetts becomes fifth state in nation to make prison calls free
This is a big deal. As part of the established cruelty of American jails and prisons, inmates aren’t allowed to have cellphones. Any phone access is through landline pay-phones — often charging exorbitant rates through contracts that funnel profits to the local sheriff’s office.
America’s most dire threat is from within
For the first time to my knowledge, a major American newspaper states the obvious, with no mealymouthed both-sides bullshit or “some say”isms.
Grand Ole Opry in Glasgow votes to ban use of Confederate flag
Turns out there’s another Grand Ole Opry, in Scotland, information of no use to me beyond triggering a brief headshake.
But it got me curious enough to google the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. On their site, the only mention of Confederate flags is on the band Lucero’s page (“Lucero have formulated their own ideas and culture which, in some cases, contradicts what came before them (no Confederate flags), but also updates and reconsiders those traditions in a new light.”).
Which means that the stars and bars remain AOK at the original Opry, because country music is largely redneck music, and redneck racists rule the South.
The Mohammed Image Archive
Behind that link, the page describes itself as “a comprehensive compendium of images that depict Mohammed (the 7th-century founder of Islam), spanning all historical periods, cultures, genres, styles, formats and themes.”
I was especially amused at the 1980 postage stamp from the Islamic Republic of Iran, with an image of the prophet on it.
Florida Republican-backed ballot measure would ban reparations for descendants of slaves
Reparations for blacks will never happen, of course, so this is merely intended to remind blacks that they’re despised.

What a third world war would mean for investors
From The Economist, un-read and of no interest to anyone sane, but the headline’s a laugh. That the way they think.
