We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Masks! (?) (2021)
I saw that an event was scheduled for Friday at the Town Square which coincided with my curbside pickup at Chautauqua Natural Foods across the street. Some anti-vaxxers had organized the gathering to bring back some normalcy after a couple years of isolation during the pandemic. Handshakes, hugs, smiles, and danceable music was promised with a didgeridoo band, masks not required out in the great outdoors.
When the time came to pick up my food order I put on my favorite shirt, my new hat, and took my grabber as a dancing prop. If I heard any danceable music from the parking lot I would go across the street to check it out. When I got there I found an acceptable pulsing beat drifting over so I popped my mask in my pocket and went to check it out.
There were a couple dozen anti-vaxxers, along with some curious jab-ees like myself no doubt, mingling about in little groups along the edge of the square while the didgeridoo guy laid down his seductively repetitive sounds at the stage area. One young woman was doing her very slo-mo dance near the musician when I exploded on to the scene with my grabber, an homage to seniors and Fred Astaire.
I rocked that beat recklessly without fear just as I had a hundred times in my living room this year and when I got back to my car a few minutes later I was shivering with electricity, a sensation which lasted another half hour.
I hope they do it again, jeez, I guess anti-vaxxers do have more fun!

Sounds like a street party! California must have better anti-vaxxers. Where I lived during the crazy years, the kooky no-jab ‘herd mentality’ parties were indoors, a conscious choice to kill Granny and ‘inoculate’ the tots.

And I love my grabber, use it almost daily, but I never take it with me. You bring it, use it when shopping? Yeah, for whatever’s on the top shelf, or on the bottom shelf way in the back — brilliant!

haha, i just bring it to use as a prop for dancing, here’s when i finally busted my move in public:

        Busting My Move
I had planned for days, weeks, months and years, thinking I was going to go live on facebook or somewhere, but hadn’t thought about live in person until I decided to try it out at the open mic in Garberville last spring. Then the open mic fizzled out after three times and I was back rockin’ in the living room.
After years of development I cut it down from fifty-eight seconds to nineteen, my stoned dream being to start an ap or something where I and fellow enthusiasts could maybe meet online for a dance greeting. (Why you may ask, to which I say why not?)
I was aiming for the first Saturday act at Summer Arts where my friends’ band was opening the festival at 10:30 at the Community Park. I parked by the Kimtu skate ramp and got my props together, putting on my hat and sticking my senior grabber into my belt like a sword, and walked forty minutes to the site. (Though I slipped in the back way I quickly found the admissions tent and paid my $30.)
“Bottoms Up” started playing, with influencer and lead singer Kate Nicole, while I sat under the big tent talking to David Katz and Bruce Champie. I was hesitant to get up in front of the band but I had to do it, had to see what it felt like, I’d waited long enough.
David glanced at my grabber and said, “Why do you have that, going to pick up some litter?”
“No, it’s a prop for busting my dance move,” I said.
Was I really afraid to get up there, after all these years of boogies? Finally I lurched out of my seat toward the stage, cold sober, and busted my move with arms in the air and a smile on my face. (That will p

What’s the move you busted? You twirl the grabber about like it’s Fred Astaire’s cane? I’ll need to see video please, or a live performance next time you’re in Seattle.

no video but here’s a description:
Now I wish someone had taped it, maybe they had, but I was so focused on finally doing it that it didn’t occur to me. How it went was: I stand there with my grabber, do a little twist, aim it like a gun, stretch out and “grab” something from the ground and then air drum it to the sky.
Next I put down the grabber, took off my hat, swirled it around, held it to my belly and swayed, put it back on my head, did a quick vague crotch grab with a hand to the chest and then out with a welcoming and celebratory gesture, all moves accompanied by a big smile.
The finale was the best where I reach up to my hair and grab it for a second as my hands fly up into the air with my hair in them as my hat goes flying. I grab the reacher and pick up the hat with it, put it back on and strike a post with the hat in one hand and the reacher in the other, both held high in the air.
Why, you might say, to which I say why not?

The video plays in my mind, and it had me laughing. Pass a cup or a tin can and I’ll pitch in a dollar!

I should have danced it for you for my donut
(in other words, i need a fucking new dance move)

For anyone who mentions their moves, dancing is required. Next time, dude.

Terry Nation is, of course Mr Doctor Who, and I’m loving what I’ve seen of this so far. Did I even know this show existed? Thanks, Claude!

Have you watched all of this? I’m starting the ninth episode, no shark-jumping yet.

Only had time for the first few eps, but so far I like it a lot.

Wiki says nation only had control for the first season, so we’ll see.

BTW this would be an interesting watch alongside Pluribus, which I have no idea what to think about, yet…

Then I’m ahead of you. Had misgivings during the season finale, like whaaa?, but it ended strong, and season two is next.

Glad you dig it. I hadn’t heard of it either. Hope you review it.
