I once had a half dozen Tom Waits records including the album this gem was on, but they disappeared along with most of my books in a divorce collision: like a fist when you open your hand. This is a gem of American songwriting and singing.

This latest school shooting was in the town where I lived until 2022. It’s a *very* Christian school, so this must’ve been God’s will.

Create a ubiquitous supply of firearms, easily obtainable by just about anybody, create a huge, pissed off underclass, allow religious nuts to force their children to attend Sunday school six days a week, and it doesn’t require much of a spark to start an inferno. This happens rarely in other nation states and often in this one, god or no god.

Much of ‘the American way’ seems designed to hold people down and piss people off, and it’s across the board — all demographics are held down and pissed off, except the very, very rich. Nobody can seriously feign surprise when adolescents, waking up to America’s near-universal injustice and mos def experiencing it themselves, strike out in anger.
Doesn’t make it right or anything. Just makes it understandable.

Possibly. There’s really no knowing. He’s unpredictable. All we know for certain is that Trump will be unprecedented in his pursuit of idiocies, and nobody will seriously oppose him.

Biden is granting pardons to random criminals, who knows what the hell Kamala is doing, Pelosi is grinding down progressives even while her hip is broken, the DNC is congratulating themselves on running a grand campaign and making plans to lose again if there’s an election in 2028, while Republicans are putting a fleet of billionaires and sexual predators in control of every government agency. Interesting times!

I’ve always obsessively followed the news, even way back in the pre-internet era when I subscribed to both local newspapers and often bought out-of-town papers. But in the interest of efficiency, I no longer even look at the ‘ordinary’ Trump coverage, of which nincompoop he’s nominated or what insane thing he’s said or posted.
Gotta also ask, is Nick Stone a non de plume? Sounds like a porn star’s stage name.

As I recall, there was a Nick Stone on Northwest Championship Wrestling. He was rock hard. I don’t know this from personal experience, but that’s what he claimed; but what’s in a nom?
