Nothing about what he said was suspicious, but the deputy called a drug dog anyway. And moments before the dog alerted by jumping on the truck, the handler’s bodycam shows that he signaled the dog.”

David Brooks has something to say…

Now that Ross Douthat has departed to start shitting at 60 Minutes, David Brooks and the New York Times‘ transphobia are my main reasons for not subscribing.

The Onion is six months ahead of reality.

In 1987, young, rich, and already somewhat famous, Donald Trump was invited by the USSR’s American Ambassador to visit Moscow, to negotiate building a hotel across the street from the Kremlin, with the Soviet government as his business partner. Trump went.

‘Trump Tower Moscow’ was never built, but it’s almost silly to imagine that the KGB didn’t have a hand in Trump’s visit and/or didn’t offer an ‘investment’ in Trump. Equally or perhaps more unthinkable (based on everything we know about DJT) is the concept that he would turn down such an offer.

In other words, Trump is and has long been a Russian asset.

Trump announces Russian diesel deal

At the American rate of consumption, this amounts to perhaps a day’s worth of diesel. It’s piddly. But, jeez, the visuals — Russia has been America’s existential enemy since the McCarthy era, and more recently Russia attacked Ukraine, is funding and arming Iran, etc. For anyone who believes the last 75 years of propaganda, making this deal with Russia is treason.

Federal Judge rules DHS must bring back Arizona man imprisoned in Africa

Excerpt: A federal judge has ordered the Department of Homeland Security to return Ahmed Soliman to the United States, five months after he was expelled to Equatorial Guinea, a country where he has no ties, in a decision that could have far-reaching implications for thousands of others subjected to the Trump administration’s third-country removal scheme.

Lawyers want a watchdog to look at Jeanine Pirro’s Reflecting Pool case. Good luck finding one.

Excerpt: The administration has pushed out roughly 20 inspectors general over the past 20 months in favor of “politically aligned replacements.” DOJ’s IG, Don Berthiaume, was confirmed 51-47 after declining to call January 6 an attack on the Capitol. Hearn’s lawyers call their request “a further test of the IG system under this Administration,” which is generous of them, considering the administration has spent 20 months rigging that very test.

News always and only from reliable sources, and I decide what’s reliable — no right-wing bullshit, no Substack because fuck Nazis, no RawStory, Newsweek, or other clickbait sites, and no Jonathan Chait, Malcolm Gladwell, Glenn Greenwald, Ezra Klein, Matt Taibbi, Matthew Yglesias, or other famous writers with nothing left to say. Written news is preferred; video links will be rare, and damned near never to videos where the reporter sits, stands, or strolls in front of a camera — that’s show biz, not news.

If you’re blocked from reading anything linked above, simply send an email, and I’ll reply with the article’s complete text, via my vast array of fine ad-blockers and paywall-vaulters. And I mean it — if you ask, I will get you the article.

    Ari

The man Pete Hegseth wants to stand in front of a firing squad on national television was already shot and paralyzed in the process of being captured and arrested in 2009. Nidal Hassan. Either they shoot him in his wheelchair, or they find a way to prop him up for the bullets and cameras. Great look either way. Hegseth is deranged.

      Deranged indeed.

His whole shtick seems to be a military fetish. He’s a caricature of the military, who imagines every soldier as GI Joe. His ‘leadership’ is nothing but tough guy poses for the camera and saying tough guy things into microphones.
