It’s a pretty good article at that link, the best assessment of the situation I’ve seen because it’s the first honest assessment I’ve seen.
I’m old gray and fat, and exhausted when I come home from picketing at a Tesla dealership for a few hours. I don’t want violence, and I’m too weak and generally chickenshit to participate in violence, but my eyes roll when people say we should write to our members of Congress, or strategize about taking back the House in the midterms, or such silliness. Sweet Jeebers, are people completely lost in a sci-fi time warp? Politics as usual is finished in America.

Rubio thanks ‘DOGE’, says he’s cancelled 83% of USAID programs
It’s been said before, of course, but a key fact that’s been media-misplaced here is that all these ‘cuts’ are illegal. Neither the executive branch nor the State Department have any authority to end any Congressionally-mandated and funded project, contract, or agency.
Education Department prepares to lay off roughly half its staff
Here’s something else that’s been said before (sorry, it’s rerun season). If the Republicans can tear the government down like they’re doing, illegally, unConstitutionally, and un-opposed, what is the point of having a Democratic Party?

ICE agents with no warrant violently arrest migrants
Becky Burke was staying with different host families, helping with household chores in exchange for lodging. To immigration authorities, this means she was illegally working in America, and thus “she’s in an orange prison jumpsuit.”

OUR FRIENDS, THE DEMOCRATS
Former Rep. Katie Porter launches run for California governor
Katie Porter is one of the unabashed good guys in American politics. She’d be a terrific governor for California, so I expect the Democratic Party will do all they can to oppose her.

GOOD NEWS
Honking complaints plunge 69% inside congestion pricing zone
Congestion pricing — making people pay an extra fee for driving downtown during rush hour — is a small and popular way to make urban life better. Musk & Trump, of course, are opposed.

EYE ON AI
Microsoft’s Edge browser is by far the worst of all current browsers. It’s basically adware and spyware, but it’s on my computer because Microsoft installed it against my will, and doesn’t allow uninstalls. In a sane society, that would be illegal. Updates to Edge are, of course, also un-opt-outable, and the latest update, a few days ago, announced itself flamboyantly:
“Microsoft Edge is your AI-powered browser.”
I laughed, and thought you might, too.

AND ALSO
This is allowed to proceed only because Trump is angry at Google. Trump’s anger drives everything he does.
Google is awful and evil, of course, but any other company that could afford to buy and run Chrome would be worse.

MY BROWSER HISTORY, MINUS THE PORN
Meet the father of the first Texas measles victim
Excerpt: The death of his daughter, Peter told me, was God’s will. God created measles. God allowed the disease to take his daughter’s life. “Everybody has to die,” he said.
Me again: Well, yeah, you dumbshit, but as the kid’s father, your purpose is to protect her, not watch her die. You feed a kid so she doesn’t starve to death, heat the house so she doesn’t freeze to death, and you get her vaccinated so she doesn’t measles to death. Unless you’re a dumbshit, in which case you’re a dumbshit with a dead daughter.

And that’s the way it is,
and nothing will
meaningfully improve
until billionaires fear for their lives
