A brief note I’ll probably delete later

Between Tylenol, ibuprofen, and Orajel, and brushing my teeth strenuously twice an hour while I’m awake and once hourly while I’m asleep, the toothache is better. Sometimes it hurts so little I can think.

And in twenty minutes I’ll be riding a bus to spend the day with my mom. She’ll nag at me to get my teeth fixed, to go to an old friend’s funeral, and to accompany her to the Holland family reunion in a few weeks. I’m actually thinking about doing the reunion, but there’s still a week and a half to talk me out of it.

Anyway, the point of this memo is, there probably won’t be any further posts today, but maybe I’ll be able to glance at the comments. Right now, though, gotta brush my teeth, pack my toothbrush so’s I can brush twice while I’m at Mom’s house, and catch the next bus…

Doug, don’t you know the link between teeth health, brain, and mortality?
If something happens to you where can I put my dirty stories?
I’ll pay for your tooth extraction and a bottle of vicodin, up to $500…
Find an emergency dentist and Go Now…
Have them call me and I’ll put it on my credit card, no problem…
Just read your story at 4am…

Well, first, thanks for the kind offer, sincerely.

Yup, I’ve heard that an infected tooth can infect the bloodstream and soon the brain, which is not good for those with long-term plans. I have no long-term plans, though. The worry is science-based, but perhaps a bit overblown, says my 50 years’ experience having teeth but no dental insurance.

When I can’t brush and drug a toothache away, I get it yanked — eight yanks so far. But this time, other than the tiniest twinge after brushing my teeth, the pain completely vanished today, which makes me think it’s not worth blowing my budget or yours getting anything repaired or ripped out.

I’ll test my theory by having a very chewy bacon-cheeseburger at the diner tomorrow morning — a rerun of the meal last Saturday that triggered almost a week’s worth of pain. If the bacon-cheeseburger doesn’t make my tooth and jaw throb, then I’ve won, and that’ll close the files on this particular toothache.
