UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s public execution is the biggest news item of the week, and it’s heartening, isn’t it?
We’re constantly lied to, and the lies are effective enough to elect Donald Trump president, but on a gut level just about everyone knows what’s what. Which is why, when an insurance executive gets shot dead, the response is near-unanimous jubilation.
A right-wing acquaintance who voted Trump three times, says climate change is a hoax, and hates me for sometimes wearing a tie-dye jacket, had a grin all over his face, and said, “Did you hear about that insurance CEO who got shot dead?” And he laughed and laughed and gave me a thumbs-up.
America stands united, for just a moment.

In that spirit of celebration, here’s some other good news you might have missed…
• In 2024 US elections, 48 of 51 openly socialist candidates won
• Belgium becomes first country to give sex workers robust labor rights and protections
• “It’s about justice”: fighter from guerrilla war sues Spanish government for €1m
• Wisconsin judge strikes down Republican-backed state law that strangled public sector unions
• Kansas detective accused of kidnap and rape is found dead on morning of trial

But as usual, most of the news is bad…
Joe Rogan and Elon Musk are the mainstream media now …which is terrifying.
