Huge news that flew under my awareness:

After fifty years of work, the Equal Rights Amendment has been ratified by the required 38 states.

Next comes the work of getting the national archivist to certify and publish it, because most of the powers that be seem to be opposed:

Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.

Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.

Sure, Republicans are apoplectic because Biden says he’s going to nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court.

Even without a proper noun, the melanin and vagina combination terrifies Republicans, because all black women are Angela Davis to them.

Biden is Biden, though. Whoever he picks will be the most bland, boring, middle-of-the-road black woman available — someone not quite as radical and progressive as, say, Kamala Harris.

I write these pages because I gotta, and anyone’s welcome to read it, but I don’t want to push it like drugs.

PDNPMN: I’ll respect that of course, just saying that with some tweaking we could make this a very successful blog.

It’s a successful blog on days I’ve said something worth saying. Other days it’s not a successful blog. The measure is not numbers.

Jeff Bezos, who has a net worth of $174.7 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, is awaiting delivery of a 417-foot sailing yacht. It’s currently in the final stages of construction at a ship yard in the Netherlands. Steven Spielberg also has one on order, after listing his old yacht for $158 million. It sold in November for an undisclosed price.

Letterman was funny, the best. Young Conan on a good night could match him, Kimmel had his nights, and that's it. Nobody else in late night on the networks is worth watching.

  Kimmel was the last one I regularly watched, but I clicked him off years ago. When a current late-night clip gets my attention now, it's almost always Colbert.

Trooper LaMay was also signing off to Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste, who I know slightly. Chief Batiste served as Chief under former Governor Christine Gregoire, then retired and went to Kenya to work with the Kenya National Police Force to assist with procedures on training and ethical policing. When he returned to the state of Washington, Governor Jay Inslee reappointed Chief Batiste to continue to lead the Washington State Patrol. I don't have either the Governor's statement nor Chief Batiste's in front of me, but I read them both. They both said that the loss of any human life is a tragedy and the loss of a Trooper or former Trooper is always a tragedy for the citizens of Washington.

I have no idea what Trooper LeMay's service record was. I think his signoff was inappropriate. But I am proud to live in a state where both the Governor and the Chief of the State Patrol are class acts.

  I'm a long ways away, but still sometimes think of Washington as home. Inslee doesn't seem to slither 🙂 and I will take your vouch for Batiste. It's cheering to see the word ethical adjacent to the word policing.
  
  Like you I have no idea what LaMay really did with his life and badge. He sure went out like a numbskull, though. I'm inspired, and when I go I absolutely want people to chuckle at my exit.

  We rarely get to choose how we go out. Sometimes Elton John sings Candle in the Wind and sometimes we just defecate ourselves to death, farting all the way. I wouldn't count on the former, and I'm going to put off the latter as long as I can. My sister bought me new underwear for Christmas and I want to keep it white for a few months if possible.
  
  To be fair, she also bought me some shirts, but if my aim gets that bad I guess it's time to cash in and check out.

  If you don't eat anything for the last few days, you can skip the whole 'everybody poops their pants' rigamarole. So leave hungry, if your dignity matters to you (mine doesn't, and I plan to leave one hell of a mess).
