Antarctic sea ice levels dive in 'five-sigma event'
"To say unprecedented isn't strong enough," Dr Doddridge said.
"For those of you who are interested in statistics, this is a five-sigma event. So it's five standard deviations beyond the mean. Which means that if nothing had changed, we'd expect to see a winter like this about once every 7.5 million years.

Patients are being severely burned from falling on ground in Arizona heatwave
Well, point of order, not from falling on the ground. Fall on the ground and you'll be OK if you don't break anything. Fall on asphalt, though, and your skin is gonna fry.

Right-wingnut Dennis Prager's videos are approved as an educational resource for Florida, K-12
There isn't enough snark in the universe for a clever retort here.

Jury decides Idaho wingnuts must pay more than $50m for defaming hospital
Yeah, but this is Ammon Bundy, so the "must" in the headline is probably incorrect — he didn't show up for the trial, and isn't going to write a check. If you know anything about Bundy, you know he'll continue living his life above the law, above any government, above any court and any verdict.

I haven't read the post yet, but wanted to share this essay about Sinead O'connor that Virginia shared with me. It's quite good:

Jesus Christ, that Valencia Street bike lane scheme seems completely boneheaded.

    1. Yup. We lived there and can picture it, but it's a truly stupid idea anywhere — give the bikes a suicide lane in the middle of a busy thoroughfare?

  3. sure it's stupid to teach kids to be stupid but stupid is what they want. Stupid people are obedient, believe even obvious lies, and guaranteed vote Republican.

  4. Republicans ask, what would make people stupider?, and what would make people miserabler?, and whatever the answer becomes Republican policy.
