Picnic for one

The world has been weighing heavy on me, for obvious reasons — watch the news — and by yesterday morning I'd had enough. It was a beautiful, sunny day, so I gave myself a picnic.

I made a roast beef sandwich, packed some chips and nuts into a plastic bag (because I'm not one of those fancy people who own a picnic basket), along with an apple, a generic Coke, some napkins, and the novel I'm reading. Wrapped all of the above into a blanket, and took the bus to a nearby park, where I had a lovely lunch on the lawn.

I did not bring a companion. Sure, it might have been nice if I'd had someone to bring, but I didn't, and I didn't let that be a bother. I also did not bring my phone, and I did not keep track of time or hurry home after eating. No worries, no interruptions, not even any bugs or flies. It couldn't have been more perfect.

When there are too many problems, too many worries, too many idiots, maybe you deserve a picnic for one.
